Sara spotted our handmade engagement and wedding rings online and got in touch with us to ask if we would make her a special engagement and wedding ring set based on a variation of that design.
"Of course", we said and Holly met with Sara and her fiancee to discuss the possibilities. After chatting with Holly, Sara decided on a 1mm wide 18ct White Gold band with an 18ct Yellow Gold setting for the single brilliant cut solitaire diamond Sara's fiancee had found. As this was a special, bespoke commission, we first made a ring in Sterling Silver, so that Sara could ensure that a 1mm wide band looked exactly how she wanted and that the setting of her diamond looked perfect. The holes in the setting, allowing more light to shine through the diamond itself were Sara's idea.
Once everyone was happy with the Sterling Silver version of the design, the 18ct Gold version was handmade, assayed and on Sara's finger in time to be shown off to friends and family at her engagement party.
When it came to the finishing the ring set with the wedding band; Sara asked if it was possible to use gold from an inherited wedding band. The ring was made using 22ct gold - we recommend that wedding and engagement ring sets are made using the same metals, the reason for this is that different metals have differing hardness and over time the harder metal will wear away its softer companion - we therefore recommended that Sara's wedding band was made with 18ct gold. The finished, handmade 1mm 18ct Yellow Gold wedding band fits beautifully with Sara's engagement ring.
